If you do not know Extremadura you will discover its legendary cities steeped in history. Las Gamitas is centrally located between two World Heritage Cities; Merida, the ancient capital of the Roman Province of Lusitania, now the capital of the Regional Government, and Caceres, the Provincial Capital and contender for the title of European City of Culture in 2016. Trujillo, the Renaissance City of the Conquistadores is also within 50 Km. of Las Gamitas.
There are many forest paths and cycling routes, some to the town where you can meet the people. Among the best routes are the paths to Zarza and Montanchez for great views of the whole area.
Autumn sees the start of the hunting season. The most tranquil spirits can find relaxation while fishing in the River Burdalo which borders Las Gamitas. Or you can fish in one of the nearby large lakes.
In Almoharin you can sample the famous ‘Torta del Casar’, a soft, mild sheep cheese, ‘criadillas de tierra’, a kind of wild truffle, and other local delicacies. Do not miss the opportunity to try other Iberian Products of the region.
